Musnad Ahmad — Hadith #44606

Abu Al-Mughirah narrated to us, Safwan narrated to us, Shuraih bin Ubaid narrated to us, he said Omar bin Al-Khattab, may God be pleased with him, said: I went out to confront the Messenger of God God, may God bless him and grant him peace, before I converted to Islam, and I found that he had preceded me to the mosque, so I stood behind him and he opened Surah Then I became astonished at the composition of the Qur’an. He said, “This is, by God, a poet,” as the Quraysh said. He said, and he recited, “Indeed, it is the saying of the Messenger.” Generous, and it is not the saying of a poet. Little do you believe. He said, I said, a soothsayer. He said, “Nor with the words of a soothsayer. Little do you remember a revelation from your Lord.” Of all the worlds, and if he were to utter some statement against us, we would take it with the oath, then we would cut off from him the two jaws, for there is no one among you who shuns him.
