حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، أَنْبَأَنَا عَمَّارُ بْنُ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَأَى فِي يَدِ رَجُلٍ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَقَالَ أَلْقِ ذَا فَأَلْقَاهُ فَتَخَتَّمَ بِخَاتَمٍ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ فَقَالَ ذَا شَرٌّ مِنْهُ فَتَخَتَّمَ بِخَاتَمٍ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ فَسَكَتَ عَنْهُ.
Affan told us, Hammad told us, Ammar bin Abi Ammar told us, that Omar bin Al-Khattab, may God be pleased with him, said that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace He, peace and blessings of God be upon him, saw a man’s hand holding a gold ring, so he said, “Throw it.” So he threw it and sealed it with an iron ring, and he said, “Who is worse than him?” So he sealed it with a silver ring and remained silent about it.
