حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ، عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ، أَنَّ الْيَهُودَ، قَالُوا لِعُمَرَ إِنَّكُمْ تَقْرَءُونَ آيَةً لَوْ أُنْزِلَتْ فِينَا لَاتَّخَذْنَا ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمَ عِيدًا فَقَالَ إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُ حَيْثُ أُنْزِلَتْ وَأَيَّ يَوْمٍ أُنْزِلَتْ وَأَيْنَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ أُنْزِلَتْ أُنْزِلَتْ يَوْمَ عَرَفَةَ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَاقِفٌ بِعَرَفَةَ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ وَأَشُكُّ يَوْمَ جُمُعَةٍ أَوْ لَا يَعْنِي الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِي وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمْ الْإِسْلَامَ دِينًا.
Abdul Rahman told us, Sufyan told us, on the authority of Qais bin Muslim, on the authority of Tariq bin Shihab, that the Jews said to Omar: You recite a verse If it had been revealed among us, we would have taken that day as a holiday. He said, “Indeed, I know where it was revealed, what day it was revealed, and where the Messenger of God is.” When it was revealed, it was revealed on the day of Arafat, and the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, was standing at Arafat. Sufyan said, “I doubt the day Friday or not, meaning today I have perfected your religion for you, completed My blessings upon you, and have approved for you Islam as your religion.
