Musnad Ahmad — Hadith #45572

Ali bin Asim told us, Asim bin Kulayb Al-Jarmi told us, on the authority of Abu Burdah bin Abi Musa, he said, I was sitting with my father, and Ali came So he stood up and greeted us, then he ordered Abu Musa to do some of the people’s affairs. Then Ali, may God be pleased with him, said: The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said to me: May God bless him and grant him peace. Ask God for guidance, and by that you mean guidance on the path. Ask God for payment, and by that you mean to direct your arrow. The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, forbade me from putting my ring on this or that index finger and middle finger. He said, so it was standing. I do not know which of them. He said, and the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, forbade me from mithras and against cruel things. We said to him, O Commander of the Faithful. And what is the mithra? He said: Something that women make for their husbands on their mounts. He said: We said: What is the mithra? He said: clothes. “It came to us from the Levant, with ribbed shapes in it like citrons,” Abu Burdah said. “When I saw the Sabani, I knew that it was her.”
