Musnad Ahmad — Hadith #45744

Bahz and Affan told us, they said Hammad bin Salamah told us, Sammak told us, on the authority of Hanash bin Al-Mu’tamir, that Ali, may God be pleased with him, told us On his authority, he was in Yemen and they dug up a dungeon for a lion, and he came until a man fell into it and clung to another, and the other clung to another and clung to it. One after another, until they became four, and the lion wounded them there, and some of them died there, and some of them were taken out and died, he said, so they disputed about it. Until they took the weapons. He said, “Ali, may God be pleased with him, came to them and said, ‘Woe to you! You kill two hundred people for the sake of four people.’” Come, and I will make a settlement between you, if you are satisfied with it. If not, then go to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace. He said, so he paid a quarter of the blood money to the first. The second gets a third of the blood money, the third gets half the blood money, and the fourth gets the full blood money. He said, “Some of them accepted it and others hated it, and he made the blood money money.” On the tribes who crowded together. He said, so they rose to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace. He said, “Bahz.” Hammad said, “I think it is.” He said, “He was reclining, so he hid himself.” He said I will make a judgment between you.
