حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلامٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ زِيَادِ بْنِ أَنْعُمٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قَالَ‏:‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم‏:‏ الشِّعْرُ بِمَنْزِلَةِ الْكَلاَمِ، حَسَنُهُ كَحَسَنِ الْكَلامِ، وَقَبِيحُهُ كَقَبِيحِ الْكَلامِ‏.‏
Muhammad bin Salam told us, he said: Ismail bin Ayyash told us, on the authority of Abd al-Rahman bin Ziyad bin Anam, on the authority of Abd al-Rahman bin Rafi’, on the authority of Abdullah bin Amr, who said: The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: Poetry is like speech, its goodness is like good speech, and its badness is like speech.
