Mishkat al-Masabih — Hadith #48469

On the authority of Saad bin Hisham, he said: I went to Aisha and said, O Mother of the Believers, inform me about the character of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace. She said: Haven’t you Do you read the Qur’an? I said: Yes. She said: The character of the Prophet of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, was the Qur’an. I said: Oh mother Believers, tell me about the Witr prayer of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace. She said: We used to prepare for him his siwak and to purify him, and God would send him He wanted to wake him up during the night, so he would cleanse himself, perform ablution, and pray nine rak’ahs, not sitting in them except in the eighth, so he would remember God. And he praises Him and they call upon Him, then he gets up and does not say the salaam, so he prays the ninth hour, then he sits and remembers God and praises Him and they call upon Him, then he gives the salutation in a way that makes us listen. Then he prays two rak’ahs after the salutation while sitting, so that is eleven rak’ahs, my son. When he began the Sunnah, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, And he took the meat and stringed it with seven, and he did the same in the two rak’ahs as he did in the first, so those are nine, my son, and he was the Prophet of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him. He said salaam when he prayed a prayer that he loved to continue with, and if sleep or pain overcame him and he could not stand up at night, he would pray two days during the day. Ten rak'ahs, and I do not know of a Prophet of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, who recited the entire Qur’an in one night, nor prayed a night until dawn, nor fasted an entire month other than Ramadan.
