Mishkat al-Masabih — Hadith #50160

On the authority of Aisha, she said: O Messenger of God, what is the thing that it is not permissible to prevent? He said: “Water, salt and fire.” She said: I said: O Messenger of God, we know this water, so what is the matter with the salt and fire? He said: “O Humayra, whoever is given fire is as if he gave in charity everything that fire cooked.” And whoever gives salt, it is as if he gave in charity everything that is good with that salt, and whoever gives a Muslim a drink of water wherever water is available, it is as if he has been freed. And whoever gives a Muslim a drink of water where there is no water, it is as if he saved it.” Narrated by Ibn Majah
