Mishkat al-Masabih — Hadith #51077

On the authority of Abu Hurairah, he said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, sent horses before Najd, and they brought a man from Banu Hanifa called: Thumama bin Athal, the master of the people of Al-Yamamah, so they tied him to one of the mosque’s poles, so the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, went out to him. He said: “What do you have, Thumama?” He said: I have a good thing, O Muhammad. If we kill, you will kill a person who has shed a blood, and if you bestow blessings, you will bestow upon a grateful person, and if you want money, then ask and you may be given as much of it as you wish. So he left him. The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, until the next day, and he said to him: “What do you have, O Thumama?” He said: I have what I have told you: If you bestow blessings, you bestow blessings upon a grateful person, and if you kill, you kill a generous person, and if you want money, then ask and you may be given as much of it as you wish. Then the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, left him until the day after tomorrow, and said to him: “What do you have, O Thumama?” He said: I have what I told you: If you do good, you will be blessed. On Shakir, and if you kill, you kill someone with a bloody sacrifice, and if you want money, then ask and you will be given as much of it as you want. Then the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “Release Thumamah.” So he went to a palm tree near the mosque, took a bath, then entered the mosque and said: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah And I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, O Muhammad, by God, there was no face more hateful to me than your face on the face of the earth. Your face is the most beloved of all faces to me, by God. There was no religion more hateful to me than your religion, but your religion has become the most beloved of all religions to me, by God. What It was from a country that was more hateful to me than your country, but now your country has become the most beloved to me of all countries. Your horses took me while I was about to perform Umrah, so what do you see? So the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, gave him the good news and ordered him to perform Umrah. When he came to Mecca, someone said to him: Have you done so? He said: No, but I converted to Islam with the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace. By God, not a grain of wheat will come to you from Al-Yamamah until a Messenger gives it permission. May God bless him and grant him peace. Narrated by Muslim and summarized by Al-Bukhari
