Mishkat al-Masabih — Hadith #51702

On the authority of Samurah ibn Jundub, he said: Whenever the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, prayed, he would turn to us and say: “Who among you saw a vision tonight?” He said: If anyone sees it, he narrates it and says: God willing. Then one day we asked him and said: “Has any of you seen a vision?” We said: No. He said: “But I am.” Tonight I saw two men who came to me and took me by the hand and led me out into a holy land. Behold, a man sitting and a man standing holding an iron club in his hand. He inserts it into his mouth and splits it until it reaches the back of it, then he does the same to his other mouth and this one heals and returns. So he does the same. I said: What is this? They said: Go, and we went until we came to a man lying on his back, and a man standing on his head with a claw or a rock shouting with it. His head, and when he hits it, the stone will strike him, and he will go to him to take him, and he will not return to this until his head is healed. His head returned to what it was, so he returned to it and hit it, and I said: What is this? They said: Go, and we went until we came to a hole like an oven, the top of which was narrow and the bottom was wide, under which a fire was burning. It rose, they rose until they were almost out of it, and when it subsided, they returned to it. There are naked men and women in it, so I said: What is this? They said: Go, and we went until we came to a river of blood in which there was a man standing in the middle of the river, and on the bank of the river a man with stones in his hands, so he approached. The man who was in the river, and when he wanted to get out, the man threw a stone into it. So he put it back where it was, and whenever he came to go out, he threw a stone into it and it went back to how it was. So I said, “What is this?” They said: Go, and we set off until we came to a green meadow, in which was a great tree, and at the root of it was an old man and two boys, and behold, a man was nearby. From the tree in his hands there was fire He would light it, so they took me up the tree and took me into the middle of the tree. I had never seen anything better than it. There were old men, young men, women, and boys. Then they took me out. Then they took me up the tree and took me into a house that was better and better than that, in which there were old men and young men. I said to them: You have encircled me. tonight, so tell me about what you saw. They said: Yes, as for the man whose mouth you saw being split open, he is a liar who tells a lie and it will be borne from him until You reach the horizons, and what you see will be done to him until the Day of Resurrection. And the one whom you saw having his head bowed was a man to whom God taught the Qur’an and he fell asleep. And he did not do what was in it during the day. What you saw will be done to him until the Day of Resurrection. And those whom you saw in the hole are the adulterers. I saw him in the river, consuming usury, and the old man whom I saw at the root of the tree, Abraham, and the children around him, so the children of people. And the one who kindles the fire is the owner of the keeper of the fire, and the first house that you entered is the house of the common believers, and as for this house, it is the house of the martyrs, and I am Gabriel. And this is Mikael, so raise your head. I raised my head, and behold, above me were like clouds, and in a distance like a white cloud. They said: That is your home. I said: He invited me to enter my home. They said: You have a lifetime remaining that you have not completed. If you had completed it, you would come to your home. Narrated by Al-Bukhari.
