Hadith #52426
On the authority of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), he said: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was prevented from completing the Hajj, so he shaved his head, had marital relations with his wives, and sacrificed his sacrificial animal, until he performed Umrah the following year.” Narrated by Al-Bukhari. 1- Al-Bukhari added: “his head.” 2- Authentic. Narrated by Al-Bukhari (1809). Al-Hafiz said in “Al-Fath” (4/7): I read in “Kitab al-Sahabah” by Ibn al-Sakan, who said: Harun ibn Isa told me, Muhammad ibn Ishaq told us, Yahya ibn Salih told us, Muawiyah ibn Salam told us, on the authority of Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, who said: I asked Ikrimah, and he said: Abd said Allah ibn Rafi’, the freed slave of Umm Salamah, said that she asked al-Hajjaj ibn Amr al-Ansari about someone who was prevented from completing the Hajj while in a state of ihram. He said: The Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “Whoever is lame, or has a broken bone, or is prevented from completing the Hajj, let him perform the same act while he is not in a state of ihram.” He said: I told this to Abu Hurayrah, and he said: He spoke the truth. I told it to Ibn Abbas, and he said: The Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, was prevented from completing the Hajj, so he shaved his head, slaughtered his sacrificial animal, and had marital relations with his wives until he performed Umrah the following year. From this context, we understand the portion of this hadith that al-Bukhari omitted, and the reason for its omission is that the additional information did not meet his criteria… even though what he omitted is not far from being authentic.”
