They survived and they all survived. Narrated by Al-Bukhari

Some Companions said, 'O Messenger of Allah! The rich became more virtuous. They pray as we pray, they fast as we do, and (they do extra work than us in that) they give charity out of their surplus. He said, "Hasn't Allah given you something to give in charity? Indeed, every tasbeeh is a charity, every takbeer is a charity, every tahlil is a charity, enjoining good deeds is a charity and forbidding evil is a charity, and your Marriage is also sadaqah.” The Companions said, 'O Messenger of Allah! If one of us suppresses his sexual appetite by having intercourse with his wife, will it be a virtue for him?' (Sure will.) Why do you have this condition? Do you not enjoin (us) the righteous and forbid the wicked?' He will say, 'Certainly.
