Riyad as-Salihin — Hadith #38769

On his authority, he said: The prayer was established, and the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, turned to us with his face and said: “Straighten your rows and close together, for I see you behind my back” ((Narrated by Al-Bukhari with his wording, and Muslim with his meaning)). And in a narration by Al-Bukhari: “One of us used to touch his shoulder with his friend’s shoulder and his foot with his foot.”
