Musnad Ahmad — Hadith #45802

Affan told us, Abu Awanah told us, on the authority of Uthman ibn al-Mughirah, on the authority of Abu Sadiq, on the authority of Rabi’ah ibn Najid, on the authority of Ali, may God be pleased with him. On his authority, he said: The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, gathered or summoned the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, and a group of them were among them. They all ate the lump of food and drank the difference. He said, “So he made a bowl of food for them, and they ate until they were satisfied.” He said, “And the food remained as it was, as if it had been He was not touched. Then he called for something to be drunk and they drank until they had quenched their thirst, and the drink remained as if it had not been touched or had not been drunk. Then he said, O Banu Abdul Muttalib, I am I was sent specifically to you and to people in general, and you have seen from this verse what you have seen. Which of you will pledge allegiance to me on the condition that he will be my brother and companion? He said, “No one stood up to him.” He said, “So I stood up to him, and I was the youngest of the people.” He said, “Sit.” He said three times, “I stand up to him.” So he told me to sit down until it was the third time that he struck my hand with his hand.
