Riyad as-Salihin — Hadith #46558

On the authority of Aisha, may God be pleased with her, she said: The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, promised Gabriel, peace be upon him, that he would come to him at an hour, but that hour came and he did not come to him! She said: He had a stick in his hand, so he threw it out of his hand while saying: “God does not break his promise, nor do his messengers.” Then he turned around and saw a dog running under his bed. He said: “When did this dog enter?” I said: By God, I did not know about him. So he ordered him to be taken out, and Gabriel came to him. Peace be upon him: Then the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “You promised me, so I sat for you and you did not come to me.” Then he said: “The dog that was in your house prevented me. We do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture” ((Narrated by Muslim)).
