Al-Adab Al-Mufrad — Hadith #47146

Abdul Rahman bin Shaybah told us: Abdullah bin Nafi’ al-Sayegh told me, on the authority of Issam bin Zayd, and Ibn Shaybah praised him well. On the authority of Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, on the authority of Jabir ibn Abdullah, that the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, ascended the pulpit, and when he ascended the first step He said: Amen, then he bowed the second time and said: Amen, then he bowed the third time and said: Amen, so they said: O Messenger of God, we heard you say: Amen three times. How many times? He said: When I ascended the first step, Gabriel, may God bless him and grant him peace, came to me and said: Wretched is a servant who has reached Ramadan and has withdrawn. And he was not forgiven, so I said: Amen. Then he said: Wretched is a servant who caught up with his parents or one of them and they did not admit him to Paradise, so I said: Amen. Then he said: Wretched is a servant in whose presence I was mentioned, and he did not pray for you, so I said: Amen.
