Mishkat al-Masabih — Hadith #49551

On the authority of Abdullah bin Omar, he said: We were with the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, on some of his raids, and he passed by a people and said: “Who are the people?” They said: We are the Muslims. A woman was preparing her pot and had a son of hers with her. When a flash rose, she stepped out with it and went to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace. On him He greeted and said: Are you the Messenger of God? He said: “Yes.” She said: May my father and mother be sacrificed for you. Is not God the Most Merciful of those who show mercy? He said: “Yes.” She said: Isn’t God more merciful to His servants than a mother is to her child? He said: “Yes.” She said: A mother should not throw her child into Hell, so the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, threw him down. He, peace and blessings be upon him, cried, then he raised his head to her and said: “God does not punish any of His servants except the rebellious rebellious one who rebelled against God and refused.” To say: There is no god but Allah.” Narrated by Ibn Majah
