Mishkat al-Masabih — Hadith #50687

On the authority of Abu Hurairah and Zayd bin Khalid: Two men disputed with the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and one of them said: Judge between us in writing. God, and the other said: Yes, O Messenger of God, judge between us according to the Book of God, and allow me to speak. He said: “Speak.” He said: My son was This man was stubborn and committed adultery with his wife. They told me that my son should be stoned, so I followed his example with a hundred sheep and a female slave of mine. Then I asked the people of knowledge. Then they informed me that my son must be subjected to one hundred lashes and a year’s exile, and stoning has only been imposed on his wife. The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, I will judge between you according to the Book of God. As for your sheep and your maidservant, they shall be returned to you, and as for your son, he shall bear a hundred lashes.” And an exile for a year, but as for you, O Unais, go to this man’s wife, and if she confesses, stone her.” So she confessed, and he stoned her.
