Mishkat al-Masabih — Hadith #52006

On the authority of Abu al-Darda’, he said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “Hunger will be imposed on the people of Hell, and it will equalize the torment they are in.” So they will call for help and will be helped with food from a cow that does not gain fat and cannot survive hunger. So they will ask for help for food and will be helped with food that is hungry. They will remember that they used to relieve the hardships of this world with drink, so they would seek help with drink, and the fire would be raised to them with iron hooks. Then, lo, It came close to their faces and disfigured their faces. When it entered their bellies, it cut off what was in their bellies. They say: Call the keepers of Hell. They say: Were you not there? Do your messengers bring you clear proofs? They said: Yes. They said: “So supplicate, and the supplication of the disbelievers is only in error.” He said: “So they say: Call Malik, and they say: O Malik, let your Lord judge us.” He said: “And He will answer them, ‘Indeed, you are abstaining’.” He said: Al-Amash: I was informed that between their supplication and Malik’s answer to them was a thousand years. He said: “So they say: Call on your Lord, for there is no one better than your Lord.” And they say: “Our Lord, our misery has overcome us, and we are a misguided people. Our Lord.” Take us out of it, but if we return then we are wrongdoers.” He said: “And He will answer them: Be humble therein and do not speak to Him.” He said: “Then they will despair of all goodness, and when They will begin to exclaim, regret, and woe.” Abdullah bin Abdul Rahman said: People do not raise this hadith.
