Hadith #52433
On the authority of Ibn Umar, may God be pleased with them both; The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever swears an oath and then says, ‘If Allah wills,’ then there is no breach of oath upon him.” Narrated by the five [Imams of Hadith] 1. And authenticated by Ibn Hibban 2. 1 - Thus in the two originals. The scribe of manuscript “A” indicated in the margin a version: “Ahmad and the four.” 2 - Authentic. Narrated by Ahmad (2/10), Abu Dawud (3261), An-Nasa’i (7/25), At-Tirmidhi (1531), Ibn Majah (2105), and Ibn Hibban (1184). I say: The wording is that of At-Tirmidhi; However, he added: “He made an exception” after saying, “God willing.” This addition, without the last phrase, was narrated by Abu Dawud, An-Nasa’i, and Ahmad. As for Ibn Hibban’s wording, it is: “Whoever swears an oath and says, ‘God willing,’ has not broken his oath.” Ibn Majah’s wording is: “Whoever swears an oath and makes an exception, if he wishes, he may retract it, and if he wishes, he may leave it, without breaking his oath.” This is also the wording of some of them, and there are other wordings, which I have mentioned in detail with their chains of transmission in “Al-Asl.”

Abdullah ibn Umar (RA)
