Jami` at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #26202

Muhammad bin Bashar narrated to us, Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi narrated to us, on the authority of Sufyan, on the authority of Abu Ishaq, on the authority of Abu Hayya, on the authority of Ali, that the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace He, peace and blessings be upon him, performed ablution three times. Abu Issa said, and in the chapter on the authority of Uthman, Aisha, Al-Rabi’, Ibn Umar, and Abu Umamah. Abu Rafi’, Abdullah bin Amr, Muawiyah, Abu Hurairah, Jabir, Abdullah bin Zaid, and Ubayy bin Ka’b. Abu Issa said. The hadith of Ali is the best thing in this matter and the most correct because it was narrated through more than one authority on the authority of Ali, may God be pleased with him. And work on this. According to most people of knowledge, ablution is sufficient: once, twice is better, and the best is three, and nothing after that. And Ibn The Blessed One is not safe if he performs ablution more than three times, lest he sin. And Ahmad and Ishaq said, “No one does more than three times for ablution except an afflicted man.”
