Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29860

Abu Zur’ah told us, he said, Al-Hasan bin Bishr told us, he said Al-Hakam bin Abdul-Malik told us, on the authority of Qatada, on the authority of Anas bin Malik, He said, when the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, ordered the Pledge of Ridwan to be made, Othman bin Affan was the messenger of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, to the people of Mecca. He said So he pledged allegiance to the people, and the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “Othman is in the need of God and the need of His Messenger.” So he struck one hand over the other. So the hand of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, to Othman was better than their hands to themselves. This is a good, authentic, and strange hadith.
