حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي زَيْدُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّهُ أَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ: إِنِّي خَطَبْتُ امْرَأَةً، فَأَبَتْ أَنْ تَنْكِحَنِي، وَخَطَبَهَا غَيْرِي، فَأَحَبَّتْ أَنْ تَنْكِحَهُ، فَغِرْتُ عَلَيْهَا فَقَتَلْتُهَا، فَهَلْ لِي مِنْ تَوْبَةٍ؟ قَالَ: أُمُّكَ حَيَّةٌ؟ قَالَ: لاَ، قَالَ: تُبْ إِلَى اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، وَتَقَرَّبْ إِلَيْهِ مَا اسْتَطَعْتَ. فَذَهَبْتُ فَسَأَلْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ: لِمَ سَأَلْتَهُ عَنْ حَيَاةِ أُمِّهِ؟ فَقَالَ: إِنِّي لاَ أَعْلَمُ عَمَلاً أَقْرَبَ إِلَى اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مِنْ بِرِّ الْوَالِدَةِ.
Sa’id bin Abi Maryam told us, he said: Muhammad bin Ja’far bin Abi Kathir told us, he said: Zaid bin Aslam told me, on the authority of Ata’ bin Left, on the authority of Ibn Abbas, that a man came to him and said: I proposed to a woman, but she refused to marry me, and someone else proposed to her, so she wanted to marry me. She married him, but I was jealous of her and killed her. Is there any repentance for me? He said: Is your mother alive? He said: No. He said: Repent to God Almighty. And get as close to him as you can. So I went and asked Ibn Abbas: Why did you ask him about his mother’s life? He said: I do not know of a better deed. To God Almighty for his kindness to his mother.
