عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ اجْتَنِبُوا الخَمْرَ فَإنَّهَا أُمُ الْخَبَائِثِ إِنَّهُ كاَنَ رَجُلٌ مِمَّن خَلَا قَبْلَكُمْ يَتَعَبَّدُ فَعَلِقَتْهُ اِمْرَأة أَغوَتْهُ فَأرسَلَتْ إليْهِ جَارِيَتُهَا فقَالَتْ لَهُ : إِنَّهَا تَدْعُوكَ لِلشَّهَادَةِ فَانْطَلَقَ مَعَ جَارِيَتِهَا فَطَفِقَ كُلَّمَا دَخَلَ بَابًا أَغْلَقَتْهُ دُونَهُ حَتَّى أَفْضَى إِلَى اِمْرَأَةٍ وَضِيْئَةٍ عِنْدَهَا غُلَامٌ وَبَاطِيَةُ خمْرٍ فَقَالَتْ: وَاللهِ مَا دَعَوْتُكَ لِلشَّهَادَةِ وَلَكِنْ دَعَوْتُكَ لِتَقَعَ عليَّ أَوْ تَشرَبَ مِنْ هَذِهِ الْخَمْرِ كَأسًا أو تَقْتُلَ هَذَا الغُلاَمَ قَالَ : فَاسْقِيْنِيْ مِنْ هَذِهِ الخَمْرِ كَأسًا فسَقَتْهُ كَأْسًا فَقَالَ: زَيْدُوْنِي فَلَمْ يَرِم حَتَّى وَقَعَ عَلَيْهَا وَقَتَلَ الْغُلَامُ فَاجْتَنِبُوْ الخَمْرَ فَإِنَّهَا وَاللهِ لَا يَجْتَمِعُ الْإِيْمَانُ وَإِدمان الخَمْرُ إِلَّا ويُوشِكُ أَنْ يُخْرِجَ أحدُهُمَا صَاحِبَهُ

On the authority of Othman bin Affan, may God be pleased with him, he said: Avoid alcohol, for it is the mother of evil. Indeed, there was a man among those who passed before you who used to worship, so I tied him up. A woman deceived him, so she sent her maid to him and said to him: She calls you to bear witness. So he went off with her maid, and he stopped every time he entered. He said: Increase me, and he did not shoot until he fell upon her and killed the boy. So avoid alcohol, for by God, faith and addiction to alcohol do not come together unless it is about to happen. One of them expels the other
