Hadith #38818
وعن عائشة رضي الله عنها، قالت: كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ، يقوم من الليل حتى تتفطر قدماه، فقلت له: لم تصنع هذا يا رسول الله، وقد غفر لك ما تقدم من ذنبك وما تأخر؟ قال:
"أفلا أكون عبدًا شكورًا". ((متفق عليه وعن المغيرة بن شعبة نحوه، متفق عليه)).
On the authority of Aisha, may God be pleased with her, she said: The Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, used to get up at night until his feet were broken, so I said to him: Why did you do this, O Messenger of God, when your previous and future sins have been forgiven? He said:
“Should I not be a grateful servant?” (Agreed upon, and on the authority of Al-Mughirah bin Shu’bah and the like, agreed upon.)
