Riyad as-Salihin — Hadith #40624

On the authority of Zaid bin Arqam, may God be pleased with him, he said: We went out with the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, on a journey during which the people were distressed. Abdullah bin Ubayy said: Do not spend on those with the Messenger of God until they disperse. He said: If we return to Medina, the more honorable will expel from it the meaner. So I came to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and informed him of that. He sent for Abdullah bin Ubayy, and he made an effort to take his oath. He did not do so, and they said: Zaid, the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, lied May God bless him and grant him peace, and what they said became distressing to me until God Almighty revealed my belief {When the hypocrites come to you} Then the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, called them to ask forgiveness for them, so they bowed their heads.
