Riyad as-Salihin — Hadith #40623

On the authority of Aisha, may God be pleased with her: She said: I said to the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, “Sufiya is such-and-such.” Some of the narrators said: It means short, so he said: “I said a word that if it were mixed with sea water, I would mix it with it!” She said: And I told him about a person, and he said: “I do not like that I told a person when I have such-and-such.” ((Narrated by Abu Dawud and Al-Tirmidhi) He said it is a good and authentic hadith.)) The meaning is: “I mixed it” with him. It is mixed with something that changes its taste or smell due to the intensity of its stink and its ugliness. This hadith is one of the most eloquent words of backbiting. God Almighty said: {And he does not speak out of inclination. It is only a revelation revealed.}
