Musnad Ahmad — Hadith #44524

Abu Al-Yaman told us, he said, Shuaib told us, on the authority of Al-Zuhri, he said, a man from the Ansar, among the people of jurisprudence, told me that he heard Uthman Ibn Affan, may God be pleased with him, narrates that some of the companions of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, died when the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, died. Peace and blessings of God be upon him. They grieved over him to the point that some of them were almost whispering. Othman said, “And I was one of them.” While I was sitting in the shade of a pile of piles, Omar passed by. May God be pleased with him, so he greeted me, but I did not feel that he had passed by or greeted me, so Omar set off until he entered upon Abu Bakr, may God be pleased with him. On his authority, he said to him: What amazes you that I passed by Uthman and greeted him, but he did not return my greeting, and he and Abu Bakr went to the governorship of Abu Bakr. Bakr, may God be pleased with him, until they all greeted me. Then Abu Bakr said: Your brother Omar came to me and mentioned that he had passed by you, so he greeted me, but he did not. You respond to him, peace be upon him. What made you do that? He said, “I did not do it.” Omar said, “Yes, by God, I did it, but it is a burden to you, O Umayyad.” He said I said, “By God, I did not feel that you had passed or been greeted.” Abu Bakr said, “Uthman has spoken the truth, and something has distracted you from that.” So I said Yes, he said, “What is it?” Othman, may God be pleased with him, said, “God Almighty, may God bless him and grant him peace, passed away before we asked him about his salvation.” This is the matter. Abu Bakr said, “I asked him about that.” He said, “So I got up to him and said to him, ‘By my father, you and my mother. You have more right to her.’” Abu Bakr said. Virgin I said, “O Messenger of God, what a relief in this matter.” Then the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “Whoever accepted from me the word that I presented to my uncle, he responded to it.” Ali, it is a salvation for him
