Musnad Ahmad — Hadith #44644

Abu Sa’id told us, Ibn Lahi’ah told us, he said: I heard Ata’ bin Dinar, on the authority of Abu Yazid Al-Khawlani, that he heard Fadalah bin Ubaid, He said, “I heard Omar bin Al-Khattab, may God be pleased with him, say that he heard the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, say that the martyrs are three.” A believing man with good faith met the enemy and believed God until he was killed. This is the one to whom the people will raise their necks on the Day of Resurrection, and the Messenger of God will raise May God’s prayers and peace be upon him, his head fell until his hood or Omar’s hood fell, and he is a believer with good faith. He met the enemy and it was as if his skin was being struck by acacia thorns. An arrow from the west came to him and killed him. He was in the second degree, and he was a believing man with good faith. He mixed a good deed with another bad deed. He met the enemy and believed God until he was killed. That is in the third degree.
