Riyad as-Salihin — Hadith #46358

On the authority of Abu Musa, may God be pleased with him, that a Bedouin came to the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, and said: O Messenger of God, a man fights for spoils, a man fights to be remembered, and a man fights to see his place? And in one narration: He fights out of courage, and he fights with feverishness. And in a narration: And he fights in anger, so who is in the path of God? Then the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “Whoever fights so that the word of God may be supreme, is in the cause of "God." ((Agreed upon)).
