حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، وَمُسْلِمٌ نَحْوَهُ، قَالاَ: حَدَّثَنَا الأَسْوَدُ بْنُ شَيْبَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي نَوْفَلِ بْنِ أَبِي عَقْرَبَ، أَنَّ أَبَاهُ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَنِ الصَّوْمِ، فَقَالَ: صُمْ يَوْمًا مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ، قُلْتُ: بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي، زِدْنِي، قَالَ: زِدْنِي، زِدْنِي، صُمْ يَوْمَيْنِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ، قُلْتُ: بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي، زِدْنِي، فَإِنِّي أَجِدُنِي قَوِيًّا، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي أَجِدُنِي قَوِيًّا، إِنِّي أَجِدُنِي قَوِيًّا، فَأَفْحَمَ، حَتَّى ظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُ لَنْ يَزِيدَنِي، ثُمَّ قَالَ: صُمْ ثَلاَثًا مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ.
Abdullah bin Abi Bakr, and a similar Muslim, narrated to us, saying: Al-Aswad bin Shayban narrated to us, on the authority of Abu Nawfal bin Abi Aqrab, that His father asked the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, about fasting, and he said: Fast one day every month. I said: May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, give me more. He said: Give me more, give me more. Fast two days every month. I said, “By my father and mother, give me more food, for I find myself strong.” He said, “I find myself strong. Strong, so he became so hot that I thought he would not make me gain any more. Then he said: Fast three days of every month.
