Mishkat al-Masabih — Hadith #49557

On the authority of Al-Baraa bin Azib, he said: When the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, went to bed, he would sleep on his right side and then say: “Oh God I surrendered myself to you, turned my face to you, entrusted my affairs to you, and turned my back to you out of desire and fear for you. There is no refuge from You except to You. I believe in Your Book which You sent down and in Your Prophet whom You sent.” The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “Whoever says them and then dies in the middle of the night has died on the Fitrah.” And in a narration he said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: May God bless him and grant him peace To a man: “O so-and-so, when you go to bed, perform your ablution for prayer, then lie on your right side, then say: Oh God, I submit.” My soul is to you, until he said: “I was sent.” And he said: “So if you die that night, die on fitrah, and if you wake up in the morning, you will achieve good.”
