Ahmad bin Abdah Al-Dhabi told us, Al-Mu’tamar bin Sulaiman told us, Ismail bin Hammad told me, on the authority of Abu Khalid, on the authority of Ibn Abbas said that the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, used to begin his prayer with (In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful). Abu Issa said this is not a hadith. Its chain of transmission is that. A number of scholars among the Companions of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said this, including Abu Hurairah, Ibn Umar, and Ibn Abbas. Ibn al-Zubayr and those who came after them among the Successors believed that it should be said out loud (In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful), and Al-Shafi’i says about it. Ismail bin Hammad is the son of Abi Suleiman. Abu Khaled is said to be Abu Khaled Al-Walbi, and his name is Hormuz, and he is Kufi. .
