Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #26757

Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ja`far narrated to us, Shu`bah narrated to us, on the authority of Abu Ishaq, on the authority of Asim ibn Damra, on the authority of Ali, on the authority of the Prophet May God’s prayers and peace be upon him and the like. Abu Issa said: This is a hasan hadith. And Ishaq bin Ibrahim said: The best thing that has been narrated about the Prophet’s voluntary work. May God’s prayers and peace be upon him on this day. It was narrated on the authority of Abdullah bin Al-Mubarak that he used to weaken this hadith. Indeed, its weakness is with us, by God. I know because nothing like this is narrated on the authority of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, except through this chain of transmission, on the authority of Asim bin Damra, on the authority of Ali and Asim. Ibn Damra is trustworthy according to some people of knowledge. Ali Ibn Al-Madini said, Yahya Ibn Sa’id Al-Qattan said, Sufyan said, “We knew.” The superiority of the hadith of Asim bin Damra over the hadith of Al-Harith.
