Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #26831

Mahmoud bin Ghaylan told us, Waki’ told us, on the authority of Sufyan, on the authority of Zayd bin Aslam, on the authority of Iyadh bin Abdullah, on the authority of Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri, He said: We used to pay Zakat al-Fitr when the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, was among us - a saa’ of food, or a saa’ of barley, or a saa’ of dates, or We did not stop bringing it out until Muawiyah came to Medina and spoke, and it was as he spoke to the people that I saw Madyan from Samarra al-Sham is equivalent to a saa’ of dates. He said, so the people accepted that. Abu Sa’id said, “I will still pay it as I have been.” Take it out. Abu Issa said, “This is a good and authentic hadith. And to act on this, according to some people of knowledge, they see a saa’ of everything. This is the opinion of Al-Shafi’i, Ahmad, and Ishaq. Some of the people of knowledge among the Companions of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, and others said, “A saa’ of everything except Of wheat, it suffices for half a saa’. This is the view of Sufyan al-Thawri, Ibn al-Mubarak, and the people of Kufa, who consider half a saa’ of wheat to be sufficient.
