Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #27181

Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna told us, Muhammad ibn Ja`far told us, Shu`bah told us, on the authority of Amr ibn Murrah, on the authority of Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Laila, He said: Zayd ibn Arqam used to say the takbir at our funeral four times, and he said the takbir at a funeral five times. We asked him about that, and he said: It was the Messenger of God. May God’s prayers and peace be upon him. He magnifies it. Abu Issa said: The hadith of Zayd bin Arqam is a hasan and authentic hadith. Some people of knowledge have gone to this point of view. The Companions of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, and others believed that five people should say “Allahu Akbar” at a funeral. Ahmad and Ishaq said, “If the imam says “Allahu Akbar,” then The funeral is five, as he follows the imam.
