Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #28383

Yahya bin Musa told us, Abdul Razzaq told us, Muammar told us, on the authority of Al-Zuhri, on the authority of Salim bin Abdullah bin Omar, on the authority of his father, he said It was said to Omar ibn al-Khattab, “If I appoint you as successor.” He said, “If I appoint you as successor, then Abu Bakr has appointed you as successor. And if I do not appoint you as successor, then the Messenger of God will not appoint you as successor.” May God’s prayers and peace be upon him. Abu Issa said: There is a long story in the hadith. This is an authentic hadith that was narrated in more than one direction on the authority of Ibn Umar.
