Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #28568

Suwayd bin Nasr told us, Abdullah bin Al-Mubarak told us, on the authority of Muammar, on the authority of Al-Zuhri, on the authority of Abdul Rahman bin Ma’iz, on the authority of Sufyan Ibn Abdullah Al-Thaqafi, he said, “I said, ‘O Messenger of God, speak to me about a matter by which I can hold fast.’” He said, “Say, ‘My Lord is God,’ then be upright.” I said, O Messenger of God, how afraid I am of what you fear for me. So he took his breath and then said, “This.” Abu Issa said, “This is a good hadith.” It is true and it was narrated through more than one authority, on the authority of Sufyan bin Abdullah Al-Thaqafi.
