Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #28801

Mahmoud bin Ghaylan told us, Abu Ahmad told us, Sufyan told us, on the authority of Abu Ishaq, on the authority of Amr bin Maymun, on the authority of Muadh bin Jabal, he said The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “Do you know what God’s right is upon His servants?” I said, “God and His Messenger know best.” He said, “For it is His right.” They must worship Him and not associate anything with Him. He said, “Do you know what their right is upon him if they do that?” I said, “Allah and His Messenger.” I know. He said, “Not to torture them.” This is a hasan and authentic hadith. It was narrated in more than one way, on the authority of Muadh bin Jabal.
