Mahmoud bin Ghaylan narrated to us, Waki’ narrated to us, Ash’ath Al-Samman narrated to us, on the authority of Asim bin Ubaid Allah, on the authority of Abdullah bin Amir bin Rabi’ah, On the authority of his father, he said: We were with the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, on his journey on a dark night, and we did not know where the qiblah was, so every man among us prayed. In the same way, when the morning came, we mentioned that to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, and the following verse was revealed: (Wherever they turn, there is the face of God.)
