Hadith #38007
مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ أَبِى سُفْيَانَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم هَذَا يَوْمُ عَاشُورَاءَ وَلَمْ يَكْتُبِ اللهُ عَلَيْكُمْ صِيَامَهُ وَأَنَا صَائِمٌ فَمَنْ أَحَبَّ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَصُومَ فَلْيَصُمْ وَمَنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يُفْطِرَ فَلْيُفْطِرْ
Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: This is the day of Ashura, and God did not decree that you should fast it, while I am fasting. So whoever among you likes to fast, let him fast, and whoever likes to break his fast, let him break his fast.
