Hadith #38095
وَعَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ قَالَ: كُنَّا بِحِمْصَ فَقَرَأَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ سُورَةَ يُوسُفَ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: مَا هَكَذَا أُنْزِلَتْ. فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللّٰهِ: وَاللّٰهِ لَقَرَأْتُهَا عَلٰى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللّٰهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: «أَحْسَنْتَ» فَبَيْنَا هُوَ يُكَلِّمُه إِذْ وَجَدَ مِنْهُ رِيحَ الْخَمْرِ فَقَالَ: أَتَشْرَبُ الْخَمْرَ وَتُكَذِّبُ بِالْكِتَابِ؟ فَضَرَبَهُ الْحَدَّ. (مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ)
On the authority of Alqamah, he said: We were in Homs when Ibn Masoud recited Surat Yusuf, and a man said: This is not how it was revealed. Abdullah said: By God, I recited it at the time of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and he said: “You have done well.” While he was speaking to him, he smelled a smell coming from him. Alcohol and said: Do you drink alcohol and lie? By the book? The punishment struck him. (agreed)
