Riyad as-Salihin — Hadith #39037
Hadith #39037
وعن عبد الرحمن بن سَمُرَة، رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : "لا تحلفوا بالطواغي، ولا بآبائكم". ((رواه مسلم)).
"الطواغي": جمع طاغية، وهي الأصنام، ومنه الحديث: "هذه طاغية دوس": أي: صنمهم ومعبودهم، وروي في غير مسلم: "بالطواغيت" جمع طاغوت، وهو الشيطان والصنم.
On the authority of Abd al-Rahman bin Samurah, may God be pleased with him, he said: The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “Do not swear by tyrants, nor by your fathers.” ((Narrated by Muslim)).
“Tāghīt”: the plural of tyrant, which means idols, and from it is the hadith: “This is a tyrant who tramples on”: meaning: their idol and their idol, and it was narrated in a non-Muslim: “by tyrants” is the plural of tāghūt, which is Satan and the idol.
