Riyad as-Salihin — Hadith #40661

On his authority, may God be pleased with him, he heard the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, saying: “There were two women with their sons. The wolf came and took the son of one of them, and she said to her companion: He only took your son. The other said: He only took your son. So they brought them to Dawud, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, and he ruled for the eldest. So they went out to Sulaiman bin Dawud, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, and they told him, and he said: Bring me a knife to cut it between them. She said: The younger one: Do not do that, may God have mercy on you. He is her son, so he decided for him for the younger one.” (Agreed upon)
