Musnad Ahmad — Hadith #44562

Affan told us, Yazid bin Zurayi told us, Yunus bin Ubaid told us, on the authority of Humaid bin Hilal, on the authority of Abdullah bin Mutarrif bin Al-Shakhir, He told them on the authority of Abu Barza Al-Aslami, that he said: We were with Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq, may God be pleased with him, at work, and he became angry at me. A Muslim man became very angry with him. When I saw that, I said, “O successor of the Messenger of God, I will behead him.” When I mentioned killing, he turned away. Concerning that hadith, the hadith included other things like that. When we separated, Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, may God be pleased with him, sent me a message after that. God said on his authority, and he said, “O Abu Barza, what you said.” He said, “And I forgot what I said.” I said, “Remind me.” He said, “Do you not remember what you said?” He said, “No, by God.” He said Did you see that when you saw me, you became angry with the man and said, “Strike off his neck, O successor of the Messenger of God. Do you not remember that, or were you the one who did that?” He said I said, “Yes, by God, and now if you command me to do it.” He said, “Woe to you” or “Woe to you.” Indeed, by God, that is not for anyone after Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace.
