Musnad Ahmad — Hadith #44568

Muhammad bin Yazid told us, Sufyan bin Hussein told us, on the authority of Al-Zuhri, on the authority of Ubayd Allah bin Abdullah bin Utbah bin Masoud, On the authority of Abu Hurairah, may God be pleased with him, on the authority of the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, who said: I have been commanded to fight the people until they say there is no god. Except God. When they say it, their lives and their properties are protected from me, except according to what is due therein, and their reckoning is with God Almighty. He said, “When the apostasy occurred,” Omar said. By Abu Bakr, may God be pleased with him, you fight them while you heard the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, say such-and-such, and he said so-and-so. Abu Bakr, may God be pleased with him, by God, I do not differentiate between prayer and zakat, and I will fight whoever differentiates between them. He said, “So we fought with him, and we saw that.” .
