Musnad Ahmad — Hadith #45247

Hashim told us, Sulayman told us, meaning Ibn al-Mughirah, on the authority of Ali bin Zaid, Abdullah bin Al-Harith bin Nawfal Al-Hashimi said, “My father was Al-Harith was in charge of one of the affairs of Mecca in the time of Uthman, so Uthman, may God be pleased with him, came to Mecca, and Abdullah bin Al-Harith, so I received Othman at the inn with a porridge, and the people of the water caught a partridge, and we cooked it with water and salt, and made it as a pitch for the porridge, so we presented it. To Uthman and his companions, and they caught them, and Uthman said, “A game that I did not catch, nor did I command its game.” A loose people caught it, so we fed it. So what's wrong? Othman said: Who says about this? They said: Ali, so he sent for Ali, may God be pleased with him, and he came. Abdullah bin Al-Harith said: It is as if I was looking at Ali when he came while he was scratching his palms, and Uthman said to him, “A game that we did not hunt, nor did we order its hunting.” He caught him He came to my people and we fed him, but there was no problem. He said, then Ali became angry and said, “I adjure God for a man who bore witness to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, when I came.” With the meat of a wild ass, and the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “We are a people in a state of sanctuary, so feed it to the people of the law.” He said, “Then the twelve people witnessed A man from the companions of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace. Then Ali said, “I call God to witness a man who bore witness to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, when he came.” With ostrich eggs, and the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “We are a people who are inviolable. Feed them to the people of the law.” He said, so he testified. The number of them is less than the twelve. He said, “Uthman bent his hip from the food, entered his saddle, and the people of the water ate that food.”
