Mishkat al-Masabih — Hadith #50186

On the authority of Zaid bin Khaled, he said: A man came to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and asked him about the shoot, and he said: “Know its protection and its caretakers.” Then let it be known for a year, and if its owner comes, otherwise it is up to you.” He said: Sheep waste? He said: “It is for you, for your brother, or for the wolf.” He said: Camel waste? He said: “What do you have to do with her?” It has its water-taker and its shoes. It draws back water and eats trees until its master meets it.” agreed. And in a narration by Muslim: He said: “Know it for a year, then know its quantity and its purity, then spend with it. If its owner comes, give it to Him.”
