Mishkat al-Masabih — Hadith #51080

On the authority of Qatada, he said: Anas ibn Malik mentioned to us on the authority of Abu Talha that the Prophet of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, ordered four people to be killed on the day of Badr. And twenty men from the tribes of Quraysh were thrown into a twilight of the twilight of Badr, an evil and malicious one. He appeared on a people who stayed in the area for three days. nights, and when the full moon of the third day came, he ordered his mount to be mounted and saddled for it, then he walked, and his companions followed him until he stood on the edge of the hill. So he started calling them by their names and the names of their fathers: “O so-and-so, son of so-and-so, and O so-and-so, son of so-and-so, should I please you because you have obeyed God?” And His Messenger? Indeed, we have found what our Lord promised us to be true. Have you found what your Lord promised you to be true?” Omar said: O Messenger of God, why do you speak to bodies that have no souls? The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “By the One in Whose Hand is Muhammad’s soul, you are not better at listening to what I say than they are.” And in a narration: “You are not more attentive than them, but they do not answer.” agreed. Al-Bukhari added: Qatada said: May God keep them alive until He made them hear His words of rebuke, belittlement, vengeance, regret, and remorse.
