أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ يَعْنِي : ابْنَ إِسْمَاعِيل بْنِ مُجَمِّعٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مُرْنِي بِأَمْرٍ أَعْتَصِمُ بِهِ.
قَالَ :" قُلْ رَبِّيَ اللَّهُ ثُمَّ اسْتَقِمْ ".
قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ مَا أَكْثَرُ مَا تَخَوَّفُ عَلَيَّ؟.
قَالَ : فَأَخَذَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِلِسَانِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ : " هَذَا "
Abu Nu`aym told us, Ibrahim told us, meaning: Ibn Ismail bin Mujma’, he said: Ibn Shihab told me, on the authority of Abd al-Rahman bin Muadh. On the authority of Sufyan bin Abdullah, he said: I said: O Messenger of God, direct me to a matter that I may adhere to. He said: “Say, ‘My Lord is God,’ then be upright.” He said: I said: Oh Prophet of God, what is the greatest fear for me? He said: Then the Prophet of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, bit his tongue and said: “This.”
